When to Replace the Temperature Sensor

This sensor may need replacement if the system shows incorrect water, air, or solar temperature readings. It may also be needed if the cable is cut, the sensor is corroded, the clamp is damaged, or the reading does not change after normal troubleshooting.

A faulty sensor can affect displayed temperature information, but it should not be confused with salt cell failure, flow switch failure, or main control board issues.

Installation Guidance

Turn off power to the pool equipment before removing or installing the sensor. Route the 15-foot cable carefully so it does not touch hot surfaces, sharp edges, moving equipment, or high-voltage wiring.

Install the sensor in the correct location based on whether it is being used for water, air, or solar temperature sensing. Make sure the sensor is secured properly and the cable connection is clean and fully seated.

If the control board connection is damaged or the system still does not read correctly after sensor replacement, the Hayward GLX-PCB-RITE replacement main PCB may need to be inspected separately.

Testing and Troubleshooting Tips

After installation, restart the system and check whether the temperature reading appears normal. Allow the system a little time to stabilize before assuming the reading is incorrect.

For saltwater pool maintenance, temperature is only one part of system troubleshooting. Salt level should also be checked with a reliable meter such as the Hayward GLX-SALTMETER digital handheld salt meter.

If salt readings seem inconsistent during service, the Hayward GLX-CAL-SOL 3200 PPM salt meter calibration solution may help verify salt meter accuracy before adding more salt.
