Compatibility Notes
Use this replacement cell only if your system is compatible with the GLX-CELL-5 model. It is commonly used for above-ground pool salt systems up to 20,000 gallons and should not be confused with larger in-ground TurboCell models.
For above-ground installations, compare the Hayward AquaTrol salt chlorination system and the Hayward AquaTrol return jet system if you are replacing more than just the cell.
If you need a temporary bypass or plumbing placeholder during service, check the GLX-CELL pipe replacement before removing the existing cell from the line.
What This TurboCell Does
The TurboCell helps generate chlorine from dissolved pool salt when it is connected to a compatible Hayward salt chlorination system. This helps reduce the need for manually adding chlorine, while still requiring proper water testing, salt level checks, and routine pool maintenance.
A worn or failing cell may lead to low chlorine output, warning lights, reduced sanitizer production, or controller error readings. Always confirm water chemistry, salt level, flow, cell type setting, and controller settings before replacing the cell.
Installation Notes
Turn off power to the salt chlorination system and pool equipment before installation. Relieve system pressure and follow the Hayward manual for the correct installation position, cable connection, and startup process.
Do not force the cell or unions into place. If the cell is difficult to remove or tighten, a salt cell wrench may help with service while reducing the risk of damage to the union area.
After installation, check for leaks, confirm proper flow, verify the controller recognizes the cell, and allow the system time to begin producing chlorine under normal operating conditions.
Maintenance Tips
Inspect the cell regularly for scale buildup, debris, or visible wear. A dirty cell can reduce chlorine output and may cause the system to show service or low-output readings.
For safer cleaning and easier handling, use a Hayward TurboCell cleaning stand when cleaning compatible Hayward TurboCells. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions and avoid using sharp tools that can damage the cell plates.
Before You Order
Confirm that your current cell is GLX-CELL-5 and that your pool size is within the listed capacity. Also check that your controller, cell type setting, plumbing setup, union size, and cable connection match this replacement cell before purchasing. Do not order this part if you need a complete salt chlorination system, control box, power center, or plumbing kit.
